After we had seen the prices of the Toyota Supra A90 “soar”, it was time for a much more modest Honda Civic to join the group of cars that were sold for values much higher than expected.
At 20 years old, the Honda Civic Si (American model) we were talking about today was auctioned by the website Bring A Trailer, for 50 thousand dollars, the equivalent of 44 thousand euros (in the end, it was $52,500 after applying the site's profit percentage).
Given all this, only one question comes to mind: what made someone pay more than 50 thousand dollars for a 20-year-old Honda Civic Si?
A (very) special Civic
Only marketed between 1999 and 2000, the Honda Civic Si we're talking about today was the first truly sporty Civic marketed in the US. As a note, the first Honda Civic Type R to arrive in the US was precisely the generation currently on sale, the FK8.

Sold in just three colors — the blue of the specimen in the photos, red and black — the main point of interest of this Civic was its engine, the B16A2.
It was the 1.6 l inline four cylinder, VTEC and DOHC (Dual Over Head Cams) capable of delivering 160 hp at 8000 rpm and 150 Nm at 7000 rpm , numbers that allowed it to reach 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) in 7.1s — a significant leap in performance compared to other Civics sold.
As around here, the Honda Civic has also become one of the favorite models in tuning in the US and the Si variant was no exception, meaning that few of the Honda Civic Si have reached the present day in original condition.
Now if we add to this the fact that this was the first sports Civic sold in the USA and that it was only marketed for two years, maybe you can understand why someone paid so much for this copy.
