Citroën E-Mehari: the free electron

The Citroën E-Mehari is a differentiated proposal that keeps its eyes on the future without forgetting its origins.

As if the unique design of the C4 Cactus wasn't proof enough, Mathieu Bellamy, director of strategy at Citroën, announced a few weeks ago that the French brand's bet in the future will be a more avant-garde and irreverent design that has marked Citroën models for decades 60, 70 and 80. Well, there was no need to wait long.

Based on the Cactus M Concept that was unveiled last September, the E-Mehari represents a snap to the original Méhari, an iconic Citroën model launched in 1968, thus maintaining a strong connection to the brand's history.

On the outside, this four-seater cabriolet stands out for its bold tones and expressive design. Like the original model, the E-Mehari is built with a plastic material that is anti-corrosive and resistant to small touches. Thanks to the raised chassis, this model adapts to various types of terrain.

Although it adopts a nostalgic spirit on the outside, in terms of engines, the E-Mehari has its eyes set on the future. In this new stage, Citroën decided to abandon combustion engines and adopt a 100% electric motor with 67 hp, powered by LMP (metallic polymer) batteries of 30 kWh.

According to the French brand, these batteries allow a speed in excess of 110 km/h and an autonomy of 200 km in urban cycle; batteries fully recharge in 8 hours on 16A outlets or 13 hours on 10A household outlets.

Inside the cabin, the customizable waterproof upholstery and folded seats are to be highlighted. The Citroën E-Mehari will be on display from December 9th to 11th in Paris, while the launch is expected to take place in the spring of 2016.
