Fisker Emotion. Rival of the Tesla Model S promises more than 640 km of autonomy.

With the already “dead and buried” Karma Automotive, now in the hands of the Chinese, the Danish designer and entrepreneur Henrik Fisker tries to establish a new project for a luxury, but also high-performance, electric saloon, which he named EMotion EV — the Tesla Model S's ultimate rival?

Despite the difficulties that this project reveals in “taking off”, it appears again now under the stage spotlight, with new images and more information.

The same designer who created products like the BMW Z8 and X5, Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage, or, more recently, the VLF Force 1 and Fisker Karma, will come up with a advertised range of over 644 kilometers (400 miles) , as well as with a base price that, in the USA, should be around 129 thousand dollars (about 107 500 euros).

Fisker EMotion EV promises overwhelming acceleration

Also according to information disclosed on the brand's website, Fisker EMotion EV should charge a power around 780 hp , transmitted to the four wheels, with which it should be able to reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in less than 3.0s and reach a top speed of almost 260 km/h.

As we've already mentioned, the announced autonomy is over 644 km, thanks to a lithium-ion battery pack — there is still no confirmation on their capacity — they can be charged quickly (fast charge) and according to the designer, they only need nine minutes of charging to allow for 201 kilometers (125 miles) of autonomy.

Next step: solid state batteries

However, despite the impressive numbers, the Dane does not fail to mention that he has not yet ruled out the possibility of installing in EMotion EV an innovative solid-state battery solution — a solution that also led to CES.

This new generation of batteries promises to raise, according to Fisker, the autonomy of the Emotion above 800 km and charging times as low as one minute. Numbers that are only possible by resorting to graphene for this type of batteries, which allow densities 2.5 times greater than current lithium. When can we see them? According to Fisker, as early as 2020.

Luxury sedan that looks like a sports car

As for the design, Fisker reveals: “I forced myself to take the design of the car as far as possible, without having to give up everything we like about the shapes of a car to do so”.

The dimensions are similar to those of the Tesla Model S, with the perception of being much more compact, due to solutions such as 24-inch wheels — and Pirelli tires with low rolling resistance. It has four doors — opening a “butterfly wing”, according to Fisker — and the interior, quite luxurious, guarantees space for four, or, optionally, five passengers.

Carbon fiber and aluminum chassis

The high autonomy and the expected high density of the batteries, result in a high weight. To mitigate its impact, carbon fiber and aluminum were applied to the chassis — EMotion will be produced in small volumes, which facilitates the use of more exotic materials.

Also in the technological field, the focus on autonomous driving with the presence of five Quanergy LiDARs, which guarantee Fisker EMotion the capacity for autonomous driving at level 4.

“Consumers want to be able to choose when it comes to cars. Since we believe that there is still a lot of room for the entry of new brands, in particular, with regard to electric vehicles"

Launch announced for 2019

Just remember that, after some delays, the new electric luxury saloon by Henrik Fisker is scheduled to arrive on the market by the end of 2019. The only thing left to do is to know if with the arguments that the Danish designer announces and that, then, yes, they will make him a rival straight from Tesla Model S
