From the realm of hamburgers, Coca-Cola and V8 engines comes another impressive creation, the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
The Detroit Motor Show stopped "by force" to see the presentation of the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06. You can see why, just look at it. It's impossible to remain indifferent to this sports car, possibly the most awaited model in the 2014 edition of the most important US auto show.
At the heart of all the action, don't expect to find an elaborate hybrid scheme, where ecological internal combustion engines are supported by willful electric motors. Not at all, the recipe is the most traditional you can imagine: A gluttonous and bulky 6200cc V8 engine, equipped with an Eaton 1.7 liter turbocharger and an intercooler to boost power even further. Translating these values into results, according to the brand, the engine of this «Chevy» can deliver more than 625hp(!) and a torque exceeding 861Nm.
An engine full of race and energy needs a gearbox that can keep up. Chevrolet offers two: a 7-speed manual transmission or a modern 8-speed automatic transmission. As for the arduous task of transmitting power to the asphalt, this is exclusively done by the rear tires. So you can imagine the “devil” that this Chervrolet Corvette Z06 is for the most careless tyres. That's why Chevrolet equipped the Z06 with “sticky” Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tires, measuring 285/30ZR19 at the front and 335/25ZR20 at the rear.
To unleash all this potential, the brand says it was the Porsche 911 that it was inspired to develop the Z06 in dynamic terms. We believe. But we also believe that the path to get there was totally different. Even so, there are ingredients that are repeated: this model was equipped with several aerodynamic appendages, all in carbon, capable of generating high aerodynamic loads. In the field of brakes, Chevrolet is once again betting on what is best done in the industry: carboceramic brakes on both axles.
And it is with these numbers and these ingredients that it makes one of the most appealing American sports cars in recent years. Sales should start in 2015.
