The new Peugeot 508 it couldn't be more different from its predecessor. The French brand's new flagship leaves behind the image of the typical D-segment saloon — outside with the classic silhouette of a three-pack, four-door saloon — reinventing itself as a similar two-and-a-half five-door saloon in contours to a coupé, highlighting the rear that assumes a fastback format.

The approach to the world of coupé is also revealed in details such as the unframed windows or the reduced height of the bodywork — at just 1.40 m, it is 5.0 cm shorter than its predecessor and the shortest in the segment. It is also 3 cm wider than its predecessor (1.85 m) and 8 cm shorter (4.75 m).

To better understand the place of the new Peugeot 508, look at it as a Volkswagen Arteon and not a Passat, or an Audi A5 Sportback and not an A4.

Entering the interior we see the latest interpretation of the i-Cockpit, characterized by the small steering wheel, accompanied by two screens: a touch screen, which concentrates the functions of the infotainment system — aided by seven toggle switches (piano keys) , with dimensions between 8″ and 10″; and another that serves as an instrument panel, with 12.3″.

Despite the reduction in exterior dimensions, Peugeot announces higher rear-livability quotas than the Audi A5 Sportback and a luggage capacity of 487 l, together with a lower and wider floor than its predecessor.

The new Peugeot 508 is based on the EMP2, the same one that we can find in the 308 and 3008, also contributing to a weight reduction, on average, of 70 kg compared to the predecessor. The rear suspension is independent, in a multi-arm scheme, which is associated, in the higher versions, with a suspension with variable damping and piloted, called Active Suspension Control — standard on GT versions and on all petrol and petrol engines. as an option on 2.0 Diesel versions.
