Porsche Cayenne 2015: new at all levels

Porsche has just announced the launch of the new Porsche Cayenne 2015. An improved version in several aspects of the current generation.

With its official launch scheduled for the Paris Motor Show in October, the Stuttgart brand has just unveiled the facelift of the Porsche Cayenne. A model that debuts some novelties in terms of design, efficiency and available technology. Highlighting the Cayenne S E-Hybrid, the first plug-in hybrid in the premium SUV segment.

In the rest of the range, we can count on the usual Cayenne S, Cayenne Turbo, Cayenne Diesel and Cayenne S Diesel. All these variants show improvements in performance and consumption. Partly due to the "goodbye" to the V8 engine (except for the Turbo version), and the replacement by a new 3.6 liter V6 twin turbo engine developed by Porsche.

Design receives light touches, inside and out

Outwardly, the improvements are less extensive. Only the most trained eyes will be able to notice the differences from the current generation Cayenne. Basically, the brand did little more than bring the Cayenne's design closer to its younger brother, the Porsche Macan. Bi-xenon headlamps are standard on all S models. The top-of-the-range Cayenne Turbo version stands out for its standard LED lights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS).

Inside, Porsche highlights the new seats and the multifunction steering wheel with paddles as standard, with appearance and functions based on the Porsche 918 Spyder.

New engines and greater efficiency

If, inside and out, the improvements are merely cosmetic, under the hood there was a real revolution. Porsche managed to increase the power and torque of its engines and simultaneously improve consumption, thanks to changes in transmission management and improvement of engine peripherals, such as the “Auto Start-Stop Plus”. The new Cayenne will also have a function called “sailing”, which tries to maximize fuel consumption when the loads on the accelerator are small.

But the company's star in this facelift of the Porsche Cayenne, is even the S version E-Hybrid plug-in hybrid, which allows an autonomy in electric mode of 18 to 36 km, depending on driving and the road. The power of the electric motor is 95hp, and together with the 3.0 V6 engine they achieve a combined consumption of 3.4 l/100km, with emissions of 79 g/km CO2. These two engines achieve a combined power of 416hp and a total torque of 590Nm. Enough to reach 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 243 km/h.

Another novelty is the Cayenne S's twin-turbo 3.6 V6 engine – which replaces the old V8 – and which achieves an average consumption between 9.5 and 9.8 l/100 km (223-229 g/km CO2). This new engine delivers 420hp and generates a maximum torque of 550Nm. Equipped with the Tiptronic S eight-speed automatic transmission, the Cayenne S accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds (5.4 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono Package) and reaches a top speed of 259 km/h .

NOT TO BE MISSED: We remember one of the last true “analogs”, the Porsche Carrera GT

In the field of diesel engines, the new Cayenne Diesel, equipped with the 3.0 V6 engine, now produces 262hp and has a combined consumption of 6.6 to 6.8 l/100 km (173-179 g/km CO2). Not being a "sprinter", the Cayenne Diesel accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in a meager 7.3 seconds, while the top speed is at 221 km/h. In the more powerful diesel version, we find the 4.2 V8 engine with 385hp and 850Nm of maximum torque. Here the numbers are different, the Porsche Cayenne S Diesel reaches 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 252 km/h. Average consumption is 8.0 l/100 km (209 g/km CO2).

Prices for the new Porsche Cayenne in Portugal will start at 92,093 euros (Cayenne Diesel) and go up to 172,786 euros for the more powerful version (Cayenne Turbo). Stay with the photo gallery:
