First images of the new Suzuki Jimny (twenty years later!)

Anonim

In production since 1998 (only undergoing minor facelifts), the small and adventurous Suzuki Jimny will finally enter the 18th century. XXI.

Suzuki has been testing the little Japanese «G-Class» for over a year now, and now, thanks to a leak, we can see what it will look like for the first time.

The square lines will dominate the bodywork, in a kind of revival of the early generations of the late Suzuki Santana/Samurai.

A Class G to scale. Seriously?

Yes, it's not an exaggeration. Like the current generation, the new Suzuki Jimny will also use a frame with stringers (independent of the bodywork).

A solution that is currently in complete disuse in the automotive industry – to the detriment of monoblock chassis – but which continues to offer the best compromise for off-road use (allows longer suspension strokes). Currently, you can count with your fingers, the models that still use this architecture, and all of them are «pure and hard»: Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Jeep Wrangler, pick-up trucks and little else.

Suzuki Jimny - information leakage

So it's not just the square lines of the little Suzuki Jimny that remind us of the Mercedes-Class G, even in terms of architecture the similarities are evident.

prepared for everything

It seems so. Suzuki is expected to equip the new Jimny with a drive system befitting its philosophy. Therefore, it is expected that the new Suzuki Jimny will use the ALLGRIP PRO system used in the brand's latest models. This system allows you to select single-drive (2WD), all-wheel (4WD) and drive with differential lock (4WD Lock) modes via a simple button.

As for engines, only gasoline engines are expected, namely the 1.0 liter Turbo with 111 hp and the 1.2 liter (atmospheric) with 90 hp – already known to us from the new Suzuki Swift. The box can be manual or automatic, depending on the engine.

More modern

If on the outside simplistic solutions seem to take us back to the 1990s, on the inside the feeling is slightly different.

Inside we'll be able to find a modern infotainment system, apparently similar to what we already know from the Suzuki Ignis.

The public presentation is scheduled for the end of October, at the Tokyo Hall.
