Mystery. BMW M2 without "caught" tailpipes. What electric will this be?

Anonim

About two weeks ago we showed you the spy photos of the future BMW M2 in tests and we told you that the M2 (G87) will keep the recipe that Guilherme Costa so praised in the BMW M2 Competition test. But now, we get new spy photos of northern Sweden that show us a current BMW M2 (F87), without exhaust outlets, denouncing an electrical test prototype.

There is nothing to indicate that there are plans for a 100% electric M2 in the near future for the BMW M, so it should be, and no one seems to doubt, a “test mule” for a future 100% electric model from the Munich brand. But it is practically impossible to understand which model is involved.

The theory that this could be the beginning of the development of an electron-only M2 future — to get there later in the decade — is one that is “on the table”, since the brand of Bavaria chose precisely the bodywork of the current BMW M2 (F87) to serve as a “test mule”.

But if we take a closer look, we notice that this test unit has a safety cage in place of the rear seats — an M2 with no rear seats? Strange… — and carbon-ceramic brakes, which may anticipate a much more radical electric model.

Another curious fact about this “sighting” is related to enrollment. This is because all test models of new BMW or MINI are “hunted” with German registration, from Munich, since it is in this city that the development of the group's new models is centered. But this “test mule” has a Swedish license plate on the back and doesn't have any number plate on the front.

Therefore, there is no lack of details capable of confusing us in this BMW. But something else would not be expected, or if this was not the main objective of the “test mules”.

Let us know in the comments box what you think the Munich brand is up to.
