An operation by the Judiciary Police (PJ) against an alleged fraud scheme in the code exams is ongoing. More than 70 searches are currently taking place and there are 150 inspectors involved.

According to SIC, 14 people were arrested this morning in a major operation by the PJ in the north of the country. The detainees are mostly examiners, assigned to the ACP's examination center in Porto, but also managers and employees of driving schools.

The Public Ministry suspects these individuals are part of a network that, in exchange for money, facilitated passing the code exams. The technique used in this fraud in code exams was highly sophisticated: candidates took the exam equipped with audio, video and radio equipment that enabled them to obtain the answers during the exam.

According to SIC, more than 200 candidates will have already passed the exam thanks to this fraud in the code exam. The Judiciary Police suspect that there are more involved and that is why it is carrying out 70 search operations in several driving schools in the north of the country.

UPDATE: According to RTP, each trainee paid 5000 euros for obtaining a driving licence.
