In recent years, “vans with rolled up pants” can even be somewhat overshadowed by SUVs. However, this does not mean that these have disappeared and the proof of this is the launch of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class All-Terrain.

After having seen it in a set of spy photos, the second Mercedes-Benz adventurous van (only the E-Class had an All-Terrain version) not only completes the C-Class range but will also want to “steal” the market from rivals Audi A4 Allroad and Volvo V60 Cross Country.

In order to do this, he started by “dressing himself up”. Based on the Avantgarde trim level, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class All-Terrain saw its ground clearance rise by 40 mm, received a dedicated grille and grew by about 4 mm in length and 21 mm in width. But there is more.

We have the traditional plastic wheel arch protectors, additional front and rear bumper protections, and Mercedes-Benz has even decided to develop a set of 17” to 19” wheels specifically for this more adventurous version.

In addition to the greater ground clearance and the adventurous look, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class All-Terrain also received more robust steering joints, has a multilink rear suspension and a passive damping system.

As you would expect, the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system (which can send up to 45% of the torque to the front wheels) is also present and there are two new driving modes in the “Dynamic Select” system: “Offroad” and “Offroad+” with the downhill speed control assistant.

Inside, the big news are the specific menus for off-road driving that appear on the 10.25” or 12.3” screens (this option is optional). In these we find indications such as the lateral inclination, the angle of the wheels, the coordinates of the place where we are and the “traditional” compass.

Inside, the novelties are limited to specific menus.

Finally, as far as the engines are concerned, the German model will only have two engines: a four-cylinder gasoline engine (M 254) and a diesel engine, the OM 654 M, also with four cylinders. Both are associated with a mild-hybrid 48V system.

With a guaranteed presence at the Munich Motor Show, the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class All-Terrain should reach dealers closer to the end of the year, with the prices of the new adventurous van of the German brand not yet being revealed.
