Volkswagen ID.4 arrives in Portugal. Discover the range and prices

THE ID.4 , Volkswagen's second all-electric model based on the MEB platform, is now available in Portugal. Orders are open and the first deliveries are scheduled for the beginning of next April.

The Volkswagen ID.4 will be available in Portugal with two different batteries and with three power levels, with prices starting at 39,280 euros for the version with a 52 kWh battery and 150 hp of power, for an autonomy of up to 340 km in WLTP cycle.

The Wolfsburg brand looks at the ID.4 as a very important piece in its electrification strategy and describes it as the best possible compromise between two market trends: electric and SUV. However, despite Volkswagen's strong commitment to the European continent, where it expects 70% of its sales in 2030 to be electric models, this is, according to the brand, a true world car, designed for Europe, China and America.

For Portugal, and after the good commercial debut of the ID.3 — it was recently distinguished with the award for Tram of the Year 2021 in our country, the brand's ambitions are great: the goal is to sell around 500 copies by the end of the year and close 2021 with a market share of 7.5%.

designed for families

Aesthetically, ID.4 does not hide the similarities with ID.3 and presents itself with the same style language that its “younger brother” inaugurated. The bodywork was designed to optimize aerodynamics and, consequently, autonomy. It is precisely in this sense that the built-in door handles appear.

Volkswagen ID.4 is available with towing device (optional) that supports loads of up to 750 kg (without brake) or 1000 kg (with brake).

But one of the biggest innovations of the ID.4 compared to the ID.3 are the roof racks for additional luggage, capable of supporting up to 75 kg. This is, moreover, a factor that fits into the family responsibilities of this SUV, which also has standard LED headlamps — optional LED array lighting — and with wheels that can vary between 18" and 21", according to the level of equipment.

Space for everyone

In terms of dimensions, the Volkswagen ID.4 has a length of 4584 mm, a width of 1852 mm and a height of 1612 mm. But it's the long wheelbase of 2766 mm, taking full advantage of the MEB platform (the same one found in the Audi Q4 e-tron or the Skoda Enyaq iV), that makes the biggest difference. Not only does the ID.4 offer a spacious cabin, it also has a luggage compartment with a capacity of 543 liters, which can grow to 1575 liters with the rear seats folded down.

Interior bets on digitization and technology.

And speaking of the passenger compartment, it is important to say that — once again … — the similarities with the ID.3 are many, with a clear focus on digitization and connectivity. Highlights include the small “hidden” instrument panel behind the multifunction steering wheel, the head-up display with augmented reality (optional) and the central touchscreen that can have 12″ and be voice-controlled.

Just say "Hello ID." to “wake up” the system, and then interact with features such as navigation, lighting or even ID Light on board, always without taking your eyes off the road.

The passenger compartment can be heated using a heat pump — optional on some versions, costs 1200 euros — which allows for less battery energy to be used for the high-voltage heating system, which translates into an advantage in terms of autonomy over the electric cars without this equipment.

available versions

Volkswagen proposes the ID.4 with two battery options and three different power levels. The 52 kWh battery has associated engines with powers of 150 hp (and 220 Nm of torque) or 170 hp (and 310 Nm) and allows a WLTP cycle autonomy of up to 340 kilometers. However, the 170 hp variant is not available in the launch phase.

The battery with the greatest capacity, with 77 kWh, is associated with an engine with a power of 204 hp (and 310 Nm) and offers up to 530 kilometers of autonomy (WLTP) on a single charge. This version is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5s.

Common to all versions is the fact that the maximum speed is limited to 160 km/h and the power is fully delivered to the rear wheels, although an all-wheel-drive version for the future (one engine per axle) called GTX is already confirmed. . It will have the equivalent of 306 hp of power and promises to bring out the dynamic qualities of the ID.4.

The 77 kWh battery supports a maximum of 11 kW in AC and 125 kW in DC.

And shipments?

The Volkswagen ID.4 battery — installed under the body floor — can be recharged from AC (alternating current) or DC (direct current) outlets. In AC, the 52 kWh battery supports powers of up to 7.2 kW, while supporting up to 100 kW in DC. The 77 kWh battery supports a maximum of 11 kW in AC and 125 kW in DC.

Remember that the ID.4 battery has an eight-year or 160,000 kilometer warranty for 70% of the remaining capacity.
