Ford maintains bet on minivans and hybridizes S-Max and Galaxy

After having been renewed a few months ago, the Ford S-Max and Galaxy will now integrate Ford's “electrified offensive”, with the two minivans receiving a hybrid version: the Ford S-Max Hybrid and Galaxy Hybrid.

The two minivans that remain in the American brand's portfolio “marry” a gasoline engine with a capacity of 2.5 l (and that works on the Atkinson cycle) with an electric motor, a generator and a water-cooled lithium-ion battery.

The hybrid system used by the Ford S-Max Hybrid and Galaxy Hybrid is similar to that of the Kuga Hybrid and, according to Ford, should deliver 200 hp and 210 Nm of torque . The CO2 emissions of the two minivans, on the other hand, should be around 140 g/km (WLTP) and, despite the hybrid system, neither of them will see their living space or luggage capacity affected.

To ensure that the Spanish plant can meet the requirements, Ford invested a total of 42 million euros there. As such, it not only created a production line for the Ford S-Max Hybrid and Galaxy Hybrid, but also built a production line for the batteries used by its hybrid models.
