Official. There will be a Mazda3 Turbo but we won't see it in Europe

Anonim

The rumors were confirmed and the Mazda3 Turbo it will even be a reality. Unfortunately, it seems that this more powerful variant of the Japanese model will not come to Europe, being confined, above all, to North America.

Driving the new Mazda3 Turbo is, as we've already announced, the 2.5 l Skyactiv-G engine already used in the US by models like the Mazda6, CX-5 and CX-9.

And just like these models, the 250 hp and 433 Nm of the new Mazda3 Turbo is only achieved when the engine is powered by 93 octane gasoline — the equivalent of the European 98.

Power is sent to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission, with no manual option. For now, Mazda has yet to release any performance data for the most powerful of the Mazda3s.

Sports version? Not really

Despite presenting itself with a power value at the level presented by true hot hatches such as the new Volkswagen Golf GTI, the Mazda3 Turbo is not the desired sporty variant of the Japanese compact.

After all, not only will it not receive the Mazdaspeed/MPS designation, a sharper chassis or even a sportier look is not expected.

Therefore, on the outside, the only differences are the adoption of larger exhaust outlets, 18” wheels in black, mirror covers in gloss black, the “Turbo” logo on the rear and, in the case of the sedan, the grille appears in black gloss and the bumper received a new decoration.
