Maserati's new offensive brings new models and electrification

Anonim

Taking advantage of the strong investment that FCA is making in Italy, Maserati made known a (very) extensive plan that involves the launch of new models and a strong investment in the electrification of its range, which, according to the brand, will continue to be produced in transalpine soil.

Basically, this Maserati offensive practically confirms (almost point by point) what we had already announced to you a few months ago, when after the presentation of the financial results for the second quarter (and first half) of the FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) we gave you to learn about Maserati's plans for the near future.

What's next?

The first model of this new Maserati offensive will be the renewed Ghibli. Scheduled for presentation next year, Maserati's competitor of models such as the BMW 5 Series or the Audi A6 will be the Italian brand's first hybrid model.

For now, it is not known whether it will be a conventional or plug-in hybrid, but Maserati has already revealed that the renewed Ghibli will receive technology that allows autonomous driving at level 2, and the brand intends that in the near future it will have Level 3 autonomous driving.

Maserati Ghibli
Launched in 2013, the Maserati Ghilbi will be renewed and electrified.

Following this will be the first 100% new Maserati model for many years. Described by Maserati as a model "filled with technology and reminiscent of traditional Maserati values", this sports car (whose name could be Alfieri) will use an electric motor and will be produced in Modena, forcing a renovation of the production line .

Maserati Alfieri
Unveiled in 2014 in the form of a prototype, the Alfieri can finally become a production model.

Already scheduled for 2021 is a new SUV that should be positioned below the Levante, a model that, according to Maserati, will “play a leading role for the brand, thanks to its innovative technologies”. The production of this new SUV will involve an investment of 800 million euros in the Cassino factory.

GranTurismo and GranCabrio also saw the arrival of a new generation confirmed, with Maserati saying that they “will herald the era of complete electrification for Maserati”, leading us to believe that they will be 100% electric.

Maserati GranTurismo

GranTurismo will finally receive a new generation and, it seems, should abandon combustion engines.

Levante and Quattroporte absent from the new plan

The new generations of Quattroporte and Levante that had been foreseen in the latest calendar of news revealed by Maserati about… two months ago were not included in the Maserati offensive now announced!

Maserati Levante

Maserati's first SUV, the Levante, was "forgotten" in this new investment plan for the Italian brand.

As has become customary whenever plans for the future of Maserati arise, only one question remains: will it be fulfilled? It's just that recent experience points more to the opposite hypothesis...
