Jeep Renegade renews itself and debuts new gasoline engines

Anonim

The first model of the American brand to debut the new turbo gasoline engines of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles group, the Jeep Renegade presents its latest restyling, with the biggest news appearing under the bonnet.

Pressured by the most stringent Euro 6d TEMP anti-emissions standard, as well as by the new WLTP/RDE test cycle, the small SUV debuts new three- and four-cylinder blocks, both with turbocharger. Including a 1.0 l three-cylinder with 120 hp and 190 Nm, and a 1.3 l four cylinder with 150 or 180 hp, both with 270 Nm of maximum torque.

Alongside these gasoline engines, the Renegade will maintain a Diesel offer, translated into the two four-cylinder Multijet II blocks already known, but in the meantime updated: a 1.6 l with 120 hp and a 2.0 l with 140 or 170 hp. Both with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, to keep NOx emissions under control.

New family of gasoline engines

The new family of modular gasoline engines from FCA, which the Jeep Renegade debuts in Europe — first introduced in Brazil, with the Fiat Argo and called by the Firefly brand — are made entirely in aluminum, with weights starting at 93 kg . Unlike South American Fireflys, in Europe they get a head with four valves per cylinder and turbochargers, keeping, unusually, only one camshaft. Injection is direct, and as we have seen with other thrusters, they also come equipped with a particulate filter. MultiAir technology is also present, now in its third generation, capable of adjusting the opening and closing of the inlet valves. This extra control allows to increase efficiency both at low loads, opening the valves early; as in high loads delaying its closing. Jeep announces consumption reductions of up to 20% when compared to its predecessors.

The most capable off road in the segment

Whichever option is taken, the customer can also choose between a six-speed manual gearbox and two automatic transmissions: one with double clutch and the other with a torque converter, the latter with nine speeds. Just as it's available with front or all-wheel drive — in the latter case, with two options Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low.

Both four-wheel drive systems are automatic in their operation, only sending power to the rear axle when needed, but through Selec-Terrain we have several modes to choose from, including Snow, Mud and Sand, which allow you to keep the rear axle always connected. .

The Jeep Active Drive Low — coupled with the 2.0 Diesel engine and nine-speed automatic gearbox — adds a low (20:1) ratio, increasing its off-road capabilities, ensuring extra-low speed traction or for towing, climbing steep slopes and face obstacles like rocks. The Jeep Active Drive Low also adds the Hill-Descent Control function (support on steep descents) to the Selec-Terrain.

Trailhawk

As if that wasn't enough to place the Renegade as a reference in the off-road segment, we also have the Trailhawk version, with independent suspension on the rear axle, increased ground clearance (210 mm) and adds the Rock (Rock) function to the Selec- Terrain.

more security

Specifically in the chapter on safety systems, Lane Departure Warning and Intelligent Cruise Control with Traffic Signal Recognition as standard on all versions. The Limited equipment level also has advanced Imminent Collision Alert and Automatic Braking.

Retouched exterior with better lighting

Perhaps less important, but equally noticeable, are the exterior changes, with the new Renegade showing an updated front, thanks to the introduction of a new grille and headlamps, as well as new protections in the wheel arches, wheels with dimensions between 16 and 19 inches, and revised taillights.

About the new lighting, Jeep highlights the fact that the new optics, fog lights and daytime running lights, all in LED, increase visibility by about 50%, compared to traditional halogen lamps.

More comfortable interior

Inside the cabin, a clear commitment to improving comfort, through the introduction of a new center console with support for a smartphone, new cup holders and a greater number of storage compartments. The American SUV will also offer another USB port, in addition to a revised Uconnect infotainment system, with a 7″ or 8.4″ touchscreen, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Available with the Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk equipment lines, the Renegade can also be customized with a variety of options, including Trespass Black and Polar Plunge coatings, as well as the top-of-the-range Sky Gray solution with Black leather and contrasting stitching. Sky Grey.
