Assisted driving system. Euro NCAP puts 7 models to the test

Anonim

More and more ubiquitous in the automotive industry and about to (some) become mandatory, assisted driving systems deserve more and more attention from Euro NCAP.

Crucial for obtaining a good overall rating in safety tests, these systems began to be individually tested based on two criteria: “Driving Assistance Competence” and “Safety Reserve”.

After about a year having evaluated the systems in 10 models, this time Euro NCAP evaluated the assisted driving technologies in the BMW iX3, CUPRA Formentor, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Polestar 2, Opel Mokka-e and the Toyota Yaris.

BMW iX3

The results

Unlike traditional Euro NCAP tests, stars are not awarded, but the following rating is: “Very Good”, “Good”, “Moderate” and “Entry”.

Of the seven models tested, only one, the BMW iX3, achieved the “Very Good” rating. Equipped with a new version of the “Driving Assistant Professional” system that has not yet reached the combustion versions of the X3, the iX3 deserved raves of praise from Euro NCAP.

Behind the German proposal, with the classification of “Good”, were the CUPRA Formentor and the Ford Mustang Mach-E. In the field of “Driving Assistance Competence” Formentor scored 70% and Mustang Mach-E 69%. The evaluation of the “Security Reserve” was 74% and 83%, respectively.

The Polestar 2 and Hyundai IONIQ 5 obtained the rating of "Moderate", with the Scandinavian model being harmed by the evaluation in the "Competence in Driving Assistance", where it obtained only 50% of the evaluation. In the evaluation of the "Security Reserve" it achieved an 85% rating.

As for the Hyundai IONIQ 5, its ratings were as follows: 77% in the “Competence in Driving Assistance” and 50% in the “Safety Reserve”.

Finally, the “Entry” rating went to the two most affordable models that were tested: the Opel Mokka-e and the Toyota Yaris.

The German model achieved 57% in the “Driving Assistance Competence” and 44% in the “Safety Reserve”. Yaris achieved 56% in the first evaluation criteria and 53% in the second.
