The Audi Q5 has been renovated. What has changed?

Following the example of its “range brothers”, like the A4, Q7 or A5 (just to mention a few), the Audi Q5 it was the target of the traditional “middle age restyling”.

In the aesthetic chapter, the rule was evolution rather than revolution. Still, there are some details that stand out like the new grille or the new bumpers (which made the Q5 grow 19 mm).

Another of the highlights are the new headlights and taillights. The first ones are in LED and have a new luminous signature.

The seconds can optionally have OLED technology that allows you to choose different light signatures.

What's new on the inside?

Inside, in addition to new coatings, we find a new infotainment system with a 10.1” screen and the MIB 3 system which, according to Audi, has 10 times more computing power than its predecessor.

Controlled via a touchscreen or voice controls, this new system has given up on the hitherto traditional rotary command.

As for the instrument panel, in top versions the Q5 has the Audi virtual cockpit plus and its 12.3” screen.

As you'd expect, the revamped Audi Q5 features the (almost) mandatory Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both accessible via a wireless connection.

Just one engine (for now)

Initially, the revamped Audi Q5 will only be available with one engine, called 40 TDI and consisting of a 2.0 TDI that has been paired with a 12V mild-hybrid system.

With a crankcase around 20 kg lighter than its predecessor and a crankshaft 2.5 kg lighter, this 2.0 TDI delivers 204 hp and 400 Nm.

Combined with the seven-speed S tronic automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels through the quattro system, this engine also saw consumption decrease and performance… improve.

With regard to consumption, Audi announces an average between 5.3 and 5.4 l/100 km (WLTP cycle), an improvement of about 0.3 l/100 km. The emissions are between 139 and 143 g/km.

In terms of performance, the revised Audi Q5 40 TDI meets 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6s and reaches 222 km/h.

Finally, as for the rest of the powertrains, Audi plans to offer the Q5 with two more versions of the four-cylinder 2.0 TDI, with one V6 TDI, two 2.0 TFSI and also two plug-in hybrid variants.

When arrives?

With arrival on the markets scheduled for the autumn of 2020, it is not yet known when the renewed Audi Q5 will arrive in Portugal or how much it will cost around here.

Even so, Audi has already revealed that in Germany prices will start at 48 700 euros. Finally, a special launch series, the Audi Q5 edition one, will also be available.
