Meet the world's first drift-ready Lamborghini

Famous Japanese driver Daigo Saito tested the limits of the Lamborghini Murciélago and turned it into an unlikely “drift machine”.

When we think of “drift cars” we think of light cars that can adopt a wide variety of engines and that are masters of a “modest” bodywork to find replacement parts in any scrap. However, at the D1 Grand Prix, Japan's most famous and elitist drift race, things are a little different. In this race, the chosen cars are neither reformed M3 nor turbocharged Toyotas, they are exotic cars.

Drift driver and world champion Daigo Saito decided to go even further and build the first Lamborghini “Drift Car” in partnership with Liberty Walk Japan. The Lamborghini Murciélago, which debuted a few days ago at the D1GP Tokyo Drift, in Odaiba, develops 650hp of power generated by the Italian V12. Not bad.

It is known that the Lamborghini Murciélago is not the ideal car for “drifting”, due to its four-wheel drive system. Daigo Saito knew this and abdicated that system to just adopt rear-wheel drive. A thorough transformation process, which took a little over 7 months, but it was worth it, as you can see in the videos below:
