Only 900 cm3, turbocharger and 110 hp… It doesn't look promising for a drift machine, but the Renault Twingo GT it has a rear engine and rear-wheel drive — it shares its base with the Smart fortwo and forfour — so, in theory, it has the right ingredients to make some beautiful drifts.
The ingredients are there, but it's like they're not. Why? In the name of safety and predictability, Renault kind of limited all the dynamic and… fun potential of its small but spirited GT.
Not only was the dynamic adjustment aimed at attenuating as much as it could the nature of its architecture from an all behind — this rear-wheel drive was even accused of oversteering... —, but electronic aids like the stability control, impossible to turn off, prevented those more intense moments of driving.
Safe and predictable? Undoubtedly, but also very boring, even because it is a mini pocket rocket, in what could be the most interesting alternative to the almost solitary Volkswagen up! GTI (one all ahead).
