C5 Aircross and Evoque put to the test by Euro NCAP

Just two models to be put to the test in the last round of Euro NCAP's ever demanding safety tests, the Citroën C5 Aircross it's the Range Rover Evoque.

Two more SUVs, a reflection of the market we have, but this time a size below those tested in the last round: G-Class, Tarraco and CR-V.

Citroën C5 Aircross

The French brand's new SUV shares many of its genes with “brother” Peugeot 3008, although the latter has never been tested to the strictest Euro NCAP criteria introduced in 2018 and updated in 2019.

The C5 Aircross has two classifications: four and five stars . Why two classifications? As we've seen in other tested models, not all versions come with all the safety equipment available, so Euro NCAP tests not only the regular model but also the one with all the optional safety equipment installed.

In the case of the C5 Aircross, the difference between the two versions comes down to the addition of a radar to the existing camera, which improves the model's performance in tests relating to autonomous emergency braking, especially in the detection of pedestrians and cyclists (the latter only possible with the presence of the radar).

Moreover, the performance of the C5 Aircross is high in the protection of occupants, adults and children, in frontal and side collision tests. However, note some observations in the pole test, where rib protection was considered marginal; and also in the frontal test, with the lower part of the driver's leg registering a weaker score.

Range Rover Evoque

In the case of Evoque, only one rating and it couldn't be better: five stars . The list of safety equipment, especially those related to driver assistance, is very complete as standard, already integrating the detection of cyclists.

Performance in crash tests revealed very effective protection for both adults and children, regardless of the type of crash — frontal (partial or full) or lateral (includes pole test) — achieving very high individual ratings.
