New design, weight reduction and greater versatility. Know the news that make the model presented in Paris the "best family SUV in the world", according to Land Rover.

It was with a desire to “redefine large SUVs” that Land Rover introduced the new Discovery. The new generation is positioned immediately below Discovery Sport and emphasizes comfort, safety and versatility, aspects that also marked the previous generations.

In terms of design, as expected, the new model is quite close to the Discovery Vision Concept presented two years ago. The interior, with space to seat seven people, is now equipped with nine USB cameras, six charging points (12V) and a 3G hotspot available for up to eight devices, in addition to the usual entertainment and connectivity systems.

“Land Rover's design and engineering teams revolutionized Discovery's DNA, creating a premium SUV that is both highly versatile and appealing. We believe the end result is a radically different model in terms of design that will introduce the Discovery family to a wider range of customers.”

Gerry McGovern, Head of Land Rover Design Department

Land Rover also unveiled a special “First Edition” version – limited to 2400 units – with an overall sportier appearance, from the bumpers and roof in contrasting colors to the leather seats inside.

Another highlight was the weight reduction that the new Land Rover Discovery underwent. Thanks to an aluminum architecture – at the expense of a steel structure – the British brand managed to save 480 kg compared to the previous model, but not for that reason it neglected its towing capacity (3,500 kg). The trunk has a capacity of 2,500 liters.

As for the engines, the British SUV is powered by a range of four and six cylinder engines coupled to an automatic transmission (ZF) of eight speeds, between 180 hp (2.0 Diesel) and 340 hp (3.0 V6 petrol). The Land Rover Discovery is the highlight on the brand's stand at the Paris Motor Show, which runs until the 16th of October.
