Renault Megane RS arrives later this year

Renault Sport has just unveiled the first teaser for the new Megane RS. His presentation takes place later this year.

The previous Renault Megane RS went out of production in September of last year, but we'll have to wait a little longer to finally meet its successor.

Taking advantage of the opportunity of having reached the mark of one million likes on Facebook, Renault Sport provided the first glimpse of the future hot hatch. Unfortunately, it is not possible to see great details under the cloth with which it is covered, which only hints at the luminous signature we already know from the Megane, together with the inferior optics that reinterpret the checkered flag we already know from the Clio RS.

What do we know about the future Renault Megane RS?

There is a lot of speculation around the hot hatch (image below is just a prediction). Truth be told, Renault Sport has been adept at hiding the details about the future Megane RS, and as such, we have to stick to the rumors (which lack confirmation).

Renault Sport will use the engine of the Alpine A110 – 1.8 liters turbo and 252 hp -, but with a greater number of horses in the Megane RS. At this point in the championship, 300 hp is the Olympic minimum to be competitive with your rivals. And even to have a chance to regain the title of fastest front-wheel drive car on the Nürburgring again.

Other rumors, however, indicate that the Megane RS can do without the front wheel drive and come equipped with an all-wheel drive system. A potential rival to the Ford Focus RS? It is practically certain that the future machine will adapt the 4Control system that we have already found in the Mégane GT, which allows for a directional rear axle.

As for the transmission, if you use the 1.8 on the Alpine, the seven-speed EDC (double clutch gearbox) should be the definitive one. And will there be an option for a manual cashier? Let's not forget that the current Clio RS has been criticized for the performance of its box, despite nobody discussing the very good commercial results obtained by this option.

And of course, like the rest of the Megane range, there will be no three-door bodywork. Could a Megane RS van be on the horizon? For now, the only certainty is that it will come with the five-door bodywork.

Regardless of the choices, hopefully the new Megane RS will be like its predecessor (pictured above): benchmark and demolition!

The new Megane RS will be unveiled later this year, with the Frankfurt Motor Show in September the most likely venue for its public debut.
