Next generation Skoda Yeti is already taking shape

The competition does not let up and therefore the Czech brand is preparing a model closer to a traditional SUV.

It comes as no surprise to anyone that Skoda engineers are already hard at work on the successor to the Skoda Yeti. After all, it's been almost eight years since Skoda launched this compact SUV. In this second generation, Skoda is preparing a complete renovation of the Yeti, starting with the use of the well-known MQB platform – which equips models such as the Golf, A3 and Octavia, to name just a few examples.

In terms of design, the new Skoda Yeti should abandon the square shapes that characterize it in order to approach traditional SUV’s, following in the footsteps of the recently launched Kodiaq, as shown by the drawings by the designer Theophilus Chin – merely illustrative. Inside, you can expect more space for passengers and an increase in the volume of the luggage compartment to close to 500 liters of capacity.

NOT TO BE MISSED: Skoda. Where did the slogan “Simply Clever” come from?

In the range of engines, we will find an offer similar to the other SUV’s of the Volkswagen Group – 1.0 and 1.4 liter TSI and 1.6 and 2.0 liter TDI engines – and optionally choose the all-wheel drive system or the automatic dual-clutch DSG gearbox. In this aspect, the big news is even the entry of a hybrid engine, similar to the Volkswagen Tiguan GTE. “It's something we are considering for the entire range, our engineers are working to find the best solution,” revealed Bernhard Maier, CEO of Skoda.

The second generation Skoda Yeti is not expected to reach dealers until 2018.
