Official. Puma is the name of Ford's new crossover

Anonim

What was a rumor a few months ago was confirmed yesterday about the form of a teaser unveiled by Ford at the “Go Further” event, the same where the American brand unveiled the new Kuga. As we told you, the Puma name will return to the Ford range, however, he does not return with the clothes we once knew him.

Following the fashion that seems to have invaded the market, the Puma is no longer a small coupé to assume itself as a small Crossover. Contrary to what was thought, it will not replace the EcoSport, but rather position itself between it and the Kuga, assuming itself as a competitor, for example, of the Volkswagen T-Roc.

Produced at the factory in Craiova, Romania, the Puma is expected to reach the market by the end of this year. According to Ford, its new SUV should offer benchmark room rates in the segment, with a luggage compartment with 456 l of capacity.

mild-hybrid version on the way

Like the rest of Ford's range, the new Puma will also have an electrified version. In the case of the new SUV this will be ensured through a mild-hybrid version which, according to the brand, will offer 155 hp extracted from the small three-cylinder EcoBoost with 1000 cm3.

As with the Fiesta EcoBoost Hybrid and Focus EcoBoost Hybrid, the system used by the Puma mild-hybrid will combine an integrated belt starter/generator (BISG) system that replaces the alternator, with the 1.0 EcoBoost three-cylinder engine.

Once a small coupé, the Puma is now an SUV.

Thanks to this system, it is possible to recover the energy generated during braking or on steep descents recharging a 48V air-cooled lithium-ion battery. This energy is then used to power the vehicle's auxiliary electrical systems and provide electrical assistance to the internal combustion engine under normal driving and under acceleration.
