Parking in places for the disabled will take two points off your driving license

In the middle of last year, the new point driving license model entered into force, which gives drivers 12 initial points that are deducted according to the offenses committed. But the news will not stop there.

A new law published today in the Diário da República establishes as a serious administrative offense stopping and parking in places reserved for people with disabilities or people with limited mobility.

According to the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), like any other serious administrative offense, in addition to being punished with a fine and an accessory penalty these administrative offenses will lead to the loss of two points on the driving license . The new law takes effect tomorrow (Saturday).

But that's not all. According to a new law, also published today in Diário da República (but which will only enter into force on August 5th), public entities that have a parking lot for users must also ensure free parking spaces for people with disabilities , “in number and characteristics that meet the technical standards for improving accessibility for people with disabilities”.

Even public entities that do not have parking for users must ensure that spaces reserved for people with disabilities are available on public roads.
