What can we expect from the new generation of the SEAT Ibiza?

The new SEAT Ibiza will be presented as early as next week. As a preview, we summarize everything we already know about the 5th generation of the Spanish bestseller.

Over 33 years of life and four generations, the SEAT Ibiza has sold more than 5.4 million units worldwide, figures that make it the best-selling Spanish car ever. Therefore, it is with great expectation (and commitment) that SEAT prepares the release of the 5th generation of its bestseller.

The world presentation is scheduled for the Geneva Motor Show, but it won't be necessary to wait until then: the new SEAT Ibiza will be presented as early as next Tuesday, the 31st.

The best know-how of the Volkswagen Group

A few years ago, the honor of the debut of the VW Group's new platforms and technologies belonged solely and exclusively to the Audi and Volkswagen models. Today it is no longer like that. Given the results of the Spanish brand, the "German giant" changed this paradigm.

Thus, the new SEAT Ibiza will have the honor of debuting in the B segment the famous MQB platform. A platform that it should allow the 5th generation of the Spanish model to gain interior space, lose weight and improve the dynamic chapter. From this platform will also be born SEAT's next compact SUV, the Arona, as well as the new Volkswagen Polo and Audi A1.

In the design chapter, the Spanish brand did not want to reveal great details. Still, it's safe to say that the new Ibiza should get closer to its “older brother” – read, the new SEAT Leon –, particularly in the luminous signature with LED technology.

TESTED: We've already run the renewed SEAT Leon

Inside, in addition to the expected increase in space for passengers, the bet will certainly fall on strengthening the connectivity and interface between the Ibiza and mobile devices – a field in which the current generation of Ibiza already presented strong arguments against the competition.

As for the range of engines, we will be able to count on the usual three- and four-cylinder blocks from the VW Group, where the focus should be (once again) on efficiency. Here, the main news may be the replacement of the current 1.4 TSI block by the latest 1.5 TSI.

The 5th generation of the SEAT Ibiza will be produced in Spain and Algeria and will reach the European markets as early as next summer. The Cupra version is expected to arrive later.
