Faraday Future FF 91: more power and autonomy than the Tesla Model X

A year after having presented its first concept at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Faraday Future returns to Las Vegas to present its first production model: the Faraday Future FF91.

“Disruption, this is what the world needs,” said Nick Sampson, head of brand development, during the presentation of the model – which was marked by a failure in the demonstration of the autonomous driving system. When lifting the cloth, the material realization of these words emerged, translated into a crossover with a futuristic design.

Although the lines are bold, none of the elements have a negative impact. What's more, the design is very aerodynamic, featuring a Cx of just 0.25 (the Toyota Prius and Tesla Model S manage 0.24).

In terms of positioning, the Faraday Future FF 91 will be a direct rival to the Tesla Model X. Faced with this competitor, the FF91 features a superior wheelbase (which should translate into more interior space), more power, more autonomy and better performances. We are talking about 1064 horsepower, 1800 Nm of maximum torque and 700 km of autonomy (according to the NEDC cycle). With these numbers, it is not surprising that the acceleration from 0-100 km/h is achieved in a measly 2.38 seconds – leaving Italian and German supersports in its path without any appeal or aggravation.

As for charging times, Faraday Future announces that in a quick outlet the FF91 only needs 4h30 to keep the batteries at 100%. According to the brand, the batteries will be supplied by LG Chem.

Naturally, another of Faraday's bets is autonomous driving, which according to the brand, in technological terms, will owe nothing to Tesla's Autopilot. As for the interior, no information has yet been revealed.

Faraday Future what?

Car electrification is allowing new brands to emerge within the car industry. Of these new brands, Tesla is the best example. Faraday Future comes along the same lines, with an offer very similar to its competitor Tesla. Backed by Chinese funds and headquartered in the US, Faraday Future currently employs 1400 employees. The main culprits come from Tesla and some of the main European brands.
