GFG Style Sibylla. The best gift to celebrate Giugiaro's 80th birthday

The latest creation born from the drawing boards of the still young design studio GFG Style (Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro), founded by the living legend of car design, Giorgetto Giugiaro, and his son Fabrizio, GFG Style Sibylla promises to gather attention at the next Motor Show of Geneva.

In celebration of my father's 80th birthday, we designed a car that combines the comfort of an SUV, the elegance of a luxury saloon and the dynamics of a sports car. It's a beautiful shape, inspired by the uninterrupted efficiency of the Envision EnOS IoT energy platform.

The concept that has now been unveiled was also he and the example of Techrules Ren, developed in collaboration with the Chinese energy management company Envision. In other words, this means that it is a 100% electric vehicle: there are four engines, one for each wheel.

Access to the cabin is the highlight GFG Style Sibylla

The image is instructive. Access to the cabin is clearly different from what we are used to. There is no A-pillar, with windshields, side front windows and part of the roof partially forming a dome, which rises and moves forward, facilitating access to the passenger compartment.

Visually impressive, no doubt, but a similar solution had already been tried by Giugiaro in the past. The 1963 Chevy Corvair Testudo also featured a generous tilting dome allowing access to the interior.

Alongside this innovation, the GFG Style Sibylla also re-imagines access to the rear seats, dividing access, as in the front, into two sections: a conventional door and a “gull wing” consisting of the side window that extends through the ceiling, reminiscent of the Tesla Model X.

In addition to accessibility, habitability is also generous, not only because of the long bodywork that exceeds five meters in length, but also because of the advantages arising from the fact that there is no transmission tunnel, as a result of the location of the electric motors.

Electric… and autonomous

But if the aesthetic, despite being contemporary, is still a tribute to the rich and glorious past of Giorgetto Giugiaro, the technology used in this GFG Style Sibylla clearly projects the model for the future.

Not only for the aforementioned four electric motors, but also for an evolved autonomous driving system — but it keeps the steering wheel. As Giugiaro says, “the technology allowed me to definitively abandon the placement of a steering wheel, but I simply couldn't do it”.

The cabin is strongly high-tech, where you can find a fully digital instrument panel that extends across the entire width of the cabin, also marked by four individual seats covered in Poltrona Frau leather, and two central storage compartments, which can move between the front and rear.

As for aspects such as benefits, powers or autonomy, the studio does not reveal anything. A situation that forces us to wait for the official presentation of the concept, on March 6, to learn more about this project by the Giugiaro family.

Not only will the GFG Style Sibylla be present, it has also promised to take to Geneva a new version prepared for the track of the Techrules Ren, called RS, and also a copy of the aforementioned Chevy Corvair Testudo.
