XXL grid on the way. Spy photos anticipate the new BMW 7 Series

The test program of the new BMW 7 Series continues with “stern wind” and, at the same time, the German top of the range has been losing its camouflage, allowing to foresee a little more of its lines.

This time the Series 7 was “caught” in tests at the Nürburgring (where else could it be?) and the maintenance of the XXL grilles is confirmed. It's true that the “double kidney” was still partially camouflaged, but it doesn't take great observational skills to realize that its dimensions are going to be huge.

The bumper also appears more “uncovered”, as well as the split headlamps, a novelty for the Bavarian manufacturer. In these, the upper LED section acts as daytime running lights and turn signals while the lower one takes on the “normal” lighting functions.

At the rear, it is not only possible to see a little of the lines of the tail lights, but also the passage of the license plate from the tailgate to the bumper is confirmed, something unprecedented in the history of the German top-of-the-range.

Finally, although we have no pictures of the interior, everything indicates that it will have a curved screen, similar to the latest BMW proposals, such as the iX.

What is already known?

For now, BMW has kept most of the technical data about the new generation of its top-of-the-range in the greatest secrecy. Even so, it is already known that the new BMW 7 Series will be available in versions with combustion engine, plug-in hybrids and even an unprecedented electric variant.

The latter should be called i7 and will be the rival of the Mercedes-Benz EQS, but unlike the one that is based on a specific base for trams, the future i7 will share its base with other 7 Series, following the strategy already used in the new BMW i4 , which derives from the Series 4 Gran Coupé.

As for the expected date for the unveiling of the new generation of the BMW 7 Series, the Bavarian brand points to the end of 2022 or even the beginning of 2023. However, even during the next year we should see it being anticipated by a prototype.
