Porsche 911. Early Generation 992 with official image, but… camouflaged

Anonim

Porsche didn't waste much time reacting after the revelation of an image that exposed the new generation 992 Porsche 911. still heavily camouflaged.

The moment is important, not only because of the weight that the model has in the Stuttgart brand, but also as a reference in the segment to which it belongs. Named 992, the new generation of Porsche's most famous model is scheduled for release only later this year.

About what we can see in the images now released, and how it would be expected, it is possible to see that the new generation will opt for an evolution of the already known design.

Not the electric Porsche 911, but a hybrid, "later on"

Product director August Achleitner guarantees that the 911 is not an electric sports car, but does not prevent the adoption of electric technology for the future generation. Which could mean that a hybrid version, plug-in type, could very well be released as early as the next decade, with rumors pointing to 2023 or 2024.

Described by the same Achleitner as “the heart of the company”, the Porsche 911 “will always have a steering wheel”. And, even if autonomous cars take over the roads sooner than expected, 911 will certainly be one of the last to accept this new reality.

911 Turbo S with 630 hp?

According to the latest information, the next-generation Porsche 911 will be topped by a Turbo S with 630 hp (vs. 580 hp in the current one), taken from an improved derivation of the familiar 3.8-litre opposite six-cylinder. Thanks, in this case, to the introduction of some hardware imported from the GT2 RS.

Just below the Turbo S will be the Turbo, with an estimated 590 to 600 hp, 50-60 hp more than the current Porsche 911 Turbo (540 hp).

Evolved platform

It should also be noted that the 992 generation will be based on an evolution of the current MMB platform, mainly marked by a reduction in weight. Result of greater use of aluminum and high-strength steels.

The images of the development units already released also predict a slight increase in dimensions, especially the width. Inside the cabin, more space is also expected — although the vast majority of 911 customers aren't exactly concerned about available legroom…

August Achleitner guarantees that, even without adopting radical changes, the 992 generation of the Stuttgart icon will surely be “the best 911 of all time”.

Expected premiere in Paris

According to the latest information, everything points to the first versions of the 992 generation of the 911, the Carrera 2S and 4S coupés, will be presented to the public during the Paris Motor Show in October.
