Solterra. Subaru's first tram is also the "brother" of the Toyota bZ4x

Anonim

Subaru has just introduced its first all-electric. It's called Solterra (it comes from the combination of the words Sol and Terra), it identifies itself as an SUV and can be seen as the «brother» of the Toyota bZ4x, which was introduced about two weeks ago.

After the BRZ and GT86 (which in the second generation was renamed the GR 86), Toyota and Subaru closely collaborated again on the development of the bZ4x and Solterra, sharing practically everything with each other.

In other words, Solterra begins a new chapter for the brand with Shibuya, in Japan, a chapter that will also pass through Europe, where this SUV will start to be sold in the second half of 2022.

Appearance at all similar

As you would expect, Solterra features a design practically modeled on its “brother” bZ4x, characterized by angular lines and pronounced creases.

However, there are some elements that give it some distinction, such as the front grille, with a hexagonal panel, and the headlights, which have a second illumination bar.

The interior was completely modeled on the Toyota bZ4x, with the natural exception for the Subaru logos.

Noteworthy is the 7” digital instrument panel and the huge touchscreen mounted in a central position, which, like the bZ4x, should have a multimedia system to allow remote updates (over the air).

In addition to being sophisticated and with soft materials, the Solterra will allow a spacious cabin, especially in terms of the rear seats, and should offer a reasonable luggage capacity (Subaru has not yet announced the final value, but the «brother» bZ4x announces 452 liters capacity).

Two versions available

When it hits the market, in the second half of 2022, the Subaru Solterra will present itself with two different versions: one with an electric motor (150 kW or 204 hp) and front-wheel drive and the other with two engines (160 kW or 218 hp) and all-wheel drive, the latter featuring AWD X-Mode and Grip Control modes to handle the toughest grip conditions.

The Subaru Solterra is 4.69 m long and 1.65 m high. As for mass, the rear-wheel drive version announces 1930 kg and the four-wheel drive 2020 kg.

In either case, the lithium-ion battery that powers the electrical system has a capacity of 71.4 kW and offers up to 530 km of autonomy in the front-wheel drive version and up to 460 km of autonomy in the full-wheel drive version.
