Next Honda S2000 can reach 320 hp of power

It won't be atmospheric but it won't be electrical either. The Japanese brand is preparing a 2.0 turbo engine specially developed for the successor of the acclaimed Honda S2000.

It's one of the longest running rumors in the automotive world, and looking at the Honda S2000's popularity levels, it's easy to see why.

The successor to the famous rear-wheel-drive roadster is one of the most anticipated models for 2018, when Honda celebrates its 70th anniversary. If confirmed, the new Honda S2000 will join the small Honda S660 (exclusive to the Japanese market) and the «almighty» Honda NSX, thus completing the trio of sports cars of the Japanese brand.

As for the engines, the current 2.0 VTEC-Turbo block of the Civic Type R appeared to be the main candidate to equip the new Honda S2000, but it seems the brand will have changed its mind.

“The Type R's 2.0 liter turbo engine is a good engine, but by 2018 it will become obsolete. We have to think further, and as this is a commemorative model, it will have to have a new engine and a chassis own".

According to a source close to the brand, in statements to Car And Driver, the sports car will adopt a 2.0 inline four-cylinder engine mounted longitudinally, with a power expected to reach 320 hp . This engine, equipped with a conventional turbocharger, will also be supported by an electric volumetric compressor and an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Sound good to you? So we can only wait (impatiently!) for official brand confirmation.
