The BMW M5 CS went to the Nürburgring. How did you behave?

With an impressive 635 hp and 750 Nm taken from a twin-turbo V8 with 4.4 liters of capacity, the new BMW M5 CS it's not only the most superlative 5 Series variant, it's the most powerful BMW ever.

In addition to the increase in power, the M5 CS was also subject to a diet (it lost 70 kg) and saw the “magicians” of the M division prepare it for a much more intensive use on the track: the chassis is more rigid, the tires they are more aggressive Pirelli P Zero Corsa and even the oil supply system is designed for extreme use on the road and to handle particularly high levels of longitudinal and transverse accelerations.

All of this allows the BMW M5 CS to “dispatch” the traditional 0 to 100 km/h in 3.0s, reach 200 km/h in just 10.4s and reach 305 km/h top speed (electronically limited). With such impressive numbers, how will the most powerful BMW ever behave in the “Green Inferno”?

The return to the Nürburgring

To answer our question, our Sport Auto colleagues have taken the BMW M5 CS to the only place where you can get the answer: the German circuit.

Led by that publication's “test driver” (Christian Gebhardt), the M5 CS covered the circuit in an impressive 7min29.57s. To give you an idea, with the same “pilot” at the wheel, the M5 Competition stayed for 7min35.90s and the M8 Competition did it in 7min32.79s.

Despite this value being remarkable, the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S 4 Portas did better, either in the version of the Nürburgring with 20.6 km (it covered it in 7min23s) or in the 20.83 km (7min27.8s) version.

However, it must be borne in mind that the Mercedes-AMG times were obtained with the brand's development engineer at the wheel. That said, the question remains: can the M5 CS with a BMW M test driver at the wheel beat the record of its countryman?
