Gruppe5 2002 is a 2002 BMW that abused on steroids

During the 70s, the vision of a BMW 2002 with the word “Turbo” written on the front bumper in the rearview mirror, it was an event on highways all over the world. However, the years passed, and the little BMW, despite maintaining its legendary status, was no longer able to “terrorize” the models it came across.

However, that may be about to change and all thanks to a company called Gruppe5. The idea of this company is simple: take a BMW 2002 classic and turn it into what it seems to be… Group 5 from the 70s.

The process starts with a “donor” car that is completely dismantled. In addition to the new engine — this is a unit based on the S85, the V10 we found in the BMW M5 (E60). — this also receives a series of carbon fiber components and a body kit that makes it (much) wider, in order to accommodate wheels with much more generous dimensions, ensuring that all the power goes to the asphalt.

From his looks — imagine a bodybuilder who couldn't say no to steroids — he would integrate perfectly into the circuits along with the old Group 5.

All this power just has to move skinny around 998 kg , allowing us to foresee performances… ballistics. When the curves arrive, Gruppe5 claims that the model will generate a downforce value of 1089 kg (!) — more than the “small” 2002 weighs.

Gruppe5 2002

Developed by Gruppe5 with the know-how of companies such as Riley Technologies (known for developing prototypes that compete in Daytona) and Steve Dinan's Carbahn Autoworks, which is dedicated to preparing the massive V10, it is still unknown how much this monster will cost that not only complies with FIA safety rules but is… street legal.
