Confirmed. Next Aston Martin DB11 and Vantage will be electric

The successors of the Aston Martin DB11 It's from Advantage will be 100% electric models. The confirmation was made by Tobias Moers, executive director of the British brand, in an interview with Automotive News Europe.

“The succession of our traditional sports segment has to be completely electric, without a doubt”, revealed Moers, who added that the first 100% electric “Aston” arrives as early as 2025.

This transition to electricity in the next generation of these two sports cars will force, according to Moers, to extend the “life” of these two models for longer than initially planned. Recall that DB11 was released in 2016 and the current Vantage “entered service” in 2018.

Moers also revealed that after the first electric, to be launched in 2025, and which will be the successor of the Vantage or DB11, Aston Martin will launch an electric SUV in the same year or as early as 2026, something that he describes as “crucial because because of the SUV's popularity”.

The “boss” of Aston Martin goes further and even talks about electric models with “up to 600 km of autonomy” and confirms the use of electric components from Mercedes-Benz, the result of the recent partnership between both companies.

Electrified range until 2025

The aim of the British brand is for all road models to be electrified in 2025 (hybrid or 100% electric) and in 2030 half of the range will correspond to electric models and 45% will correspond to hybrid models. The remaining 5% correspond to competition cars, which are not included — for now — in these accounts.

The brand has just unveiled Valhalla, its first plug-in hybrid, and will soon start delivering the first road units of the Valkyrie, a hyper-sport hybrid that combines a Cosworth atmospheric V12 engine with an electric motor.

These models will be followed by a plug-in hybrid version of the DBX, the British brand's first SUV, and a supercar — also a plug-in hybrid — anticipated by the Vanquish Vision prototype, which we discovered at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

But while electrification doesn't "take by storm" the entire range of Aston Martin, the British brand continues to update its current models and equip them with weapons so that they continue to fight in today's market.

DB11 V8 is now more powerful

As such, in updating the models for 2022, “Aston” added more power to the DB11's V8 engine, debuted new wheel options for the DBS and DBX and confirmed that it will abandon the “Superleggera” and “AMR” designations.

But let's go in parts, first the DB11 and its 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which now produces 535 hp of power, 25 hp more than before. This increase also made it possible to raise the maximum speed, which is now fixed at 309 km/h.

The DB11 Coupé with a V12 engine maintained its power, but lost the AMR name. DBS, in turn, is no longer accompanied by the Superleggera designation, a decision that Aston Martin justifies by helping to simplify the range.
